Every month, the professional development meetings of statisticians and data scientists at Waite, known as StatsPD@Waite, bring together specialists in various aspects of data sciences in agriculture from Waite, Roseworthy and Adelaide.
Please join us for the next StatsPD@Waite seminar where Peter Kasprzak, Olena Kravchuk and Sam Catt from the Biometry Hub, and School of Agriculture, Food and Wine, University of Adelaide will present on “Questions from the automatic assessment of field crop emergence of faba beans”.
Also please note that the StatsPD@Waite meetings are recorded. If you have a question to the speaker but had rather not be recorded, please send your question via chat during the meeting and it will be asked on your behalf.
Please email Beata Sznajder with questions or for details of the Zoom meeting.
Title: Questions from the automatic assessment of field crop emergence of faba beans
Presenter: Peter Kasprzak, Olena Kravchuk, Sam Catt, The Biometry Hub, and School of Agriculture, Food and Wine, University of Adelaide
In collaboration between The Biometry Hub and The Faba Bean Breeding Program, University of Adelaide, we have collated field images of faba beans emergence over several days early in the 2022 season at the individual plot level. The development of the ML algorithm for counting the plants was previously presented at StatsPD@Waite. In this talk, we give a brief update on the algorithm and the field work effort and cost required to collect the data. We will explore how the emergence results can add value to the analytical workflow of the breeding program. The work is in progress.
